Sake bottle "Tokkuri"

美濃高田徳利

Since the Edo period, when people began to drink sake on a daily basis, this "tokkuri" became popular as a container lent by liquor shops. People would take this tokkuri  to the liquor store, have it filled with the required amount of sake, and take it home. When they ran out of sake, they would take this tokkuri back to the liquor store to buy more.
