Box woven with willow - lacquered papier-mache （lacquered = urushi）
This box is woven from willow, covered with paper, and finished with lacquer over it. It is believed to have been made in the Edo period. There are some small tears in places, but no major damage and in good condition. The aged look of the black lacquer is very beautiful.
 
行李  一閑張り
黒漆で仕上げられた一閑張りの柳行李。小さな破れが所々ありますが、大きな損傷もなく、良好なコンディション。黒い漆とその下から感じる籠の節々が豊かな質感を感じさせます。
